Summary Description: Recovery Workers help with much of the day-to-day business of caring for clients at High Plains Mental Health Center. Job tasks include providing transportation, helping with children’s groups and working one-on-one with individuals in the 24-hour Schwaller Crisis Center. This is a great job for students who are considering a career in mental health, but it is also an excellent job for retired individuals who are willing to help and make some extra money. Hours are flexible with a limit of 28 hours per week.

The Recovery Worker provides Attendant Care, Psychosocial Rehabilitation, Respite Care and Crisis Intervention services to adults with severe and persistent mental illness. These services are intensive consumer-centered, goal directed services provided on a face-to-face basis in the Schwaller Crisis Center and community settings. Also perform basic clerical duties or other miscellaneous duties determined by supervisor.
Hours: Thursday through Sunday, 12:00 AM to 10:00 AM, or as directed by supervisor
Qualifications for this position include at least (1) Have one year of college course work in the field of human services or one year of experience in the field of human services; or a combination of education and work experience in the field of human services; (2) Be 18 years or older; if consumer is under the age of 18, the Recovery Worker must be at least three years older than the consumer; (3) Have other experience in the provision of services to persons with mental illness or severe emotional disturbance, which may be substituted for one year of education or work experience in the human service field. This includes experience acquired by family members or others about persons with mental illness or SED and includes persons who are themselves recovering from such illness; (4) Possess demonstrated interpersonal skills, ability to work with persons with severe and persistent mental illness and/or severe emotional disturbance, and the ability to react effectively in a wide variety of human service situations; (5) Have certification of completion of basic attendant care training within 30 days of employment and additional training within six months of employment according to curriculums approved by the Division of Health Care Policy; (6) Have access to reliable transportation; (7) pass KBI, SRS child abuse check, Adult Abuse Registry and Motor Vehicle screens. Must have a valid Kansas driver license and good driving record (including no alcohol-related incidents in last five years); and (8) Ability to perform basic clerical duties with accuracy such as filing, answering the phone, scheduling, etc. (9) Must demonstrate competency in the use of technology including computers, various software applications, printers, scanners, telephones, etc. Must also demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement, to include understanding and application of technology (hardware, software, equipment and processes).
