Dr. Virginia Patriarca – Medical Director

Dr. Virginia Patriarca has worked at High Plains Mental Health Center since 1995 and has been the Medical Director since 2008.  Dr. Patriarca completed her medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines in 1979 and completed her psychiatry residency at Mount Sinai School of Medicine City Hospital at Elmhurst from 1982 to 1985.  After a year-long Fellowship with the New York Medical College focusing on Consultation Liaison/Alcoholism, she began work on an inpatient unit in the Bronx.  After three years working in the Bronx, Dr. Patriarca worked an additional two years at the psychiatric emergency room in Elmhurst, New York, followed by four years of private practice in Presque Isle, Maine during which time she completed a training on ECT through Duke University.

Affectionately known as Dr. P., she started work at High Plains as the manager of the inpatient psychiatric unit in what was then Hadley Hospital.  When the Hadley Unit closed in June of 1999, Dr. Patriarca transitioned to the Screening and Referral department and did emergency medication evaluations.  In 2008 she became the Medical Director for the Center and has worked in that capacity since.

In her 21st year working at High Plains Mental Health Center, Dr. P. attributes her long tenure at High Plains to working “with a good group of people starting from support staff, administration, and medical staff.  You feel like you belong to a BIG family.”
